Senior Hydraulic Engineer

Exeltech is seeking an experienced designer of fish passage and stream restoration projects, with emphasis on fish passage restoration at stream/road crossings. You will serve as a technical specialist, performing, overseeing and sometimes leading hydrologic, hydraulic, and geomorphic modeling and analyses in collaboration with scientists, engineers, landscape architects and other specialists on fish passage and stream restoration projects.

The Exeltech team focuses culvert and bridge, roadway and landscape design, fish passage, stream habitat and landscape restoration for small and large/complex sites, and stormwater management projects. We offer opportunities to work on all project phases from planning through design, permitting and construction.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop engineering design including plans, specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents for fish passage, stream restoration and a variety of water resources projects.

  • Perform Hydrology & Hydraulics modeling including 1D/2D hydraulic models to inform planning and design of stream restoration, fish passage restoration at culverts and bridges, and stormwater management.

  • Develop preparation of technical and non-technical reports and presentations including visualization of data.

  • Perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control on plans, calculations and other technical deliverables.

  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver full-service project planning, design, permitting, and construction oversight.

  • Assist with business development activities including client relations, marketing pursuits, and project proposals.

Required Qualifications

  • BS in civil or environmental engineering, or major emphasis in riverine hydrology and hydraulics, stream restoration and fish passage design

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in water resources/stormwater engineering and/or delivering fish passage project(s)

  • Experience in 1D/2D hydrologic and hydraulic modeling including HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS.

  • Experienced with Microsoft Office software suite, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS.

  • Experience with the development of stream simulation for fish passage, sediment analysis and sizing, streambank stabilization design (bioengineering and hard armoring), scour analyses, stormwater management plans, and soil erosion and sediment control plans.

  • Experience with the development of technical specifications, cost estimates, and bid documents. Prior construction monitoring/review experience is desired.

  • Demonstrated experience working within regulatory processes, including meeting federal, state, and local permitting requirements for projects in and around regulated waterways and wetlands.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and good internal review processes.
