South Lander Street Grade Separation

City of Seattle
Seattle, Washington

Exeltech served as Office Engineer and Document Control Specialist during construction of the new grade separation on South Lander Street between 1st and 4th Avenues South, crossing BNSF and Amtrak tracks. The bridge is approximately 68 feet in total width including exterior barriers and two 12-foot lanes, a 14-foot-wide multi-use path, and a barrier between motorized and nonmotorized vehicles. Exeltech also performed the constructability review on the design of this project, producing an extensive list of revisions that were incorporated by Change Order into the project to avert potential contractor claims. The project included associated improvements to roadways, utilities, traffic control improvements, and site restoration.

Construction of the grade separation included fabrication and placement of precast prestressed concrete girders; construction of shafts, cast-in-place concrete structure, and precast concrete wall panels; working near existing utilities and mainline railroad tracks; handling and disposing of contaminated materials; and geofoam installation. Additionally, the work included grading, utility work, paving, curb ramp and sidewalks, planting, architectural fencing, pedestrian railings, signals, lighting, signing, and channelization.
